Family Portraits with a Difference

While on a well earned family break in the winter sun of Havana, I encountered a street 'portrait' photographer in Havana Cuba. Using an old style Kodak camera it was fascinating to watch him and his assistant work. Getting his subjects to still still seemed to be a problem for Jose Gonzalo. He has been working the streets of Havana for 20 years and taken around fives minutes to take and develop the photos. I must say, it was like a history lesson in real time, even if my hand stung of slight acid burn as I walked off with my 2 inch by 2 inch print. More travel photographs are available on www.urbanfoto.co.uk and the blog associated with that site.
Now back from holiday and back at work Greg Forbes, Perthshire based wedding photographer is now taking bookings for 2009 and 2010. I cover Perth, Fife, Highlands, Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee, Edinburgh and the Borders. Please feel free to contact me through my website www.gregforbesphotography.com or on email greg4bs@aol.com .

Prediction for 2009

During a working trip to New York last summer I noticed how coloured 'Vitamin Water' was everywhere in the shops. I wonder how long I thought to myself before this stuff is marketed in the UK. A few months. Today as I stopped by Costa coffee I nearly fell into an advertising board for......you guested it Vitamin Water. Coming to a shop near you soon.
For more information on my non wedding photography and to show you what I am up to when I am not shooting weddings please have a look at www.urbanfoto.co.uk. I have a great selection of travel photography and some advertising work that I have carried out over the last year. My wedding bookings at www.gregforbesphotography.com are going well for 2009 and 2010. Please feel free to contact me for a quote.

Superb Outdoor Wedding Photographs in Kinloch Rannoch, Highland Perthshire 4th October 2008

The wedding of Juli and Martin took place on the banks of loch Rannoch on Saturday 4th October 2008. Juli is an Ecologist from the USA who now lives in Edinburgh. She had her heart set on an outdoor wedding in October. The dream was nearly broken due to the Scottish weather. In the days leading up to the wedding the forecast was all over the place. The night before the wedding the temperature dropped to -6 with snow on the hills. Worse than that at the scheduled wedding time of two thirty it was chucking it down. At that precise time someone was missing, someone very important, namely the mother of the bride who had left her wedding dress in her hotel in Edinburgh (discovered while on the A9 north of Perth) The way I look at it all things happen for a reason. By the time her mother arrived the sun had broken through the clouds and was beating down on the banks of Loch Rannoch. So a couple of hours late the wedding took place followed by a series of location shoots around the banks of the loch.

I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this wedding. I really love the outdoors and blending wedding photography with nature is right up my street. Having carried out a pre wedding shoot the month before the wedding I doubted that on the day the bride would want to hike up the side of a waterfall or get her photograph taken in a tree. So I underestimated this bride. Her love of nature was clear for all to see. I really hope they are pleased with my work. I really enjoyed the day.

Edinburgh Wedding Photography. A Walk Down the High Street in late summer

The late summer wedding of Lisa and Simon took place in the registry office in the High Street, Edinburgh. Greg Forbes, wedding photographer based in Kinross took the photos on the day. As the couple did not want anything too fancy, the three of us took a walk down the High Street and took the wedding photos as we walked. It's amazing what nooks and crannies you can find along the way. A few of the couples favorite photos have been included.

Loch Rannoch, Perthshire Pre Wedding Photos with added Blue Crab

The images were taken around Loch Rannoch while on a planning trip for Juli and Martins wedding in October. The Blue crap photo is a bit of a joke. During the planning trip Juli met the chef at the Loch Rannoch MacDonald Hotel to discuss a traditional disk from weddings in Maryland, USA (where she is from), namely hot Blue Crab dip. It's a traditional dish at weddings in that part of America and the chef did his best to copy the recipe that Juli provided. The American guest's will not be expecting it so it will be a real surprise on the day. As Julie is an Ecologist working in Edinburgh a large focus on the wedding photos will be the environment. Just hope it's still summer come October

Website for your wedding

You learn something every day in life. Seems like the latest trend in weddings is to have a website dedicated to your wedding. Check out my October clients one at http://www.martinandjuli.com

I am really looking forward to photographing and outside Autum wedding at Loch Rannoch, especially when I found out that the bride (Juli) will be arriving in a 1960's split screan VW. Now that's what I call arriving in style!!!!

Hope for an Indian Summer in Scotland

Kinross based wedding photographer Greg Forbes joined Julie and Martin on a pre wedding trip to Loch Rannoch in Perthshire last weekend to plan the photography for their wedding on 3rd October 2008. While most brides are very careful about getting dirt near their wedding dress, Julie being an ecologist plans to have an outdoor wedding in October. She is from Maryland in the USA and here's hoping the sun gods are shining on Highland Perthshire at the start of October.

Scottish Borders Pre Wedding Shoot

A lovely early August evening provided the backdrop to a pre wedding visit to Meilstrom house in the Scottish Borders, where Greg Forbes and Jose Vega Lozano planned the wedding photoshoot of Ali and Nicola from Edinburgh. Greg says ' It really pays dividends to plan your wedding day's shooting prior to the wedding. I find that the day runs much better from a photography point of view if I have walked around venue with the couple'.

Greg Forbes of www.gregforbesphotography.com is now taking bookings for 2009 and 2010. He has a distinctive reportage style of photography which proves to be very popular with his clients.

Having Fun with the kids at a wedding

Having two kids aged 7 and 5 I am really used to interacting with and getting kids to enjoy wedding photos. The photo here was taken this year in Glencoe, Highlands. Near the end of the afternoon the flower girls wanted to have a competition to see how high they could throw their bouquet. Greg was on hand to record the game....
I just love photographing weddings in the Highland's as the countryside, light and feel of the place is second to none.

The Piper Plays in the middle of the 5th Hole 'Four'

At a recent wedding in Livingston, West Lothian I had more than I wanted to contend with as the Bride and Groom arrived at the reception at Uphall Golf Club. As the piper David Brown played on the local golfers were held up for a few minutes as the newly married 'Browns' entered the club.

Dunalister Hotel, Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire

More and more clients are asking me to photograph their wedding in the reportage style to build a story of the wedding day. This is a skill in itself which is a progression from traditional wedding photography which tended to be more formal in approach. As a reportage photographer you need to be constantly alert and on the look out for photographic opportunities throughout the day. The following photographs are an illustration of the style which some call photo journalistic. They were taken inside the Dunalister Hotel in the village of Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire by Greg Forbes
